Moodle Web Developer

As the Moodle Web Developer for Savvas Learning Company you will be responsible for ensuring our customers and internal users continued success by extending Moodle to create a unique and engaging experience.  You will report to our Director of Digital Learning Environments and key stakeholders on developing unique experiences within our Moodle LMS. Ultimately, you will be an all-around Moodle backend and frontend expert ready to break the boundaries of what is possible with custom Moodle plugins and configurations as we grow beyond the US Market.

The Web Developer is competent in producing dynamic user-friendly websites as well as internal applications using data analytics to drive decisions. You can take direction and assume responsibility to complete tasks in a timely fashion and with the highest degrees of quality. As a part of the Professional Learning Services business unit, they identify new self-service opportunities that meet our efficacy standards, support our overall mission to help our customers make measurable progress in their lives through learning.




  • BA/BS (or equivalent) Degree from an accredited institution in web design, web development or information technologies

  • At least three years of experience in web design, web development or other relevant experience

  • Experience in the education industry is preferred

Required Skills: 

  • HTML5, CSS3, jQuery, PHP, CodeIgniter, MySQL, Bootstrap, Database Administration, and other tools and methodologies. 

  • Understanding of various Moodle modules and experience in customizing Moodle functionalities and developing custom themes for Moodle is required.

  • Experience in integrating plug-ins and writing new plug-ins to extend the Moodle system core features.

  • Experience in XML data structures, JSON data structures, and Web Services (REST).

  • Experience in MySQL and other RDBMS.

  • Experience in Ajax, jQuery, JavaScript, JavaScript Frameworks, CSS, and HTML.

  • Proven experience with Moodle API and integration with third party systems is required.

  • Ability to think critically and provide solutions based on current or upcoming business needs.

  • Experience with compiled languages such as C#Java, or Rust is a bonus and not required.


  • Proficient and well-versed with applying the concepts, practices, and procedures in web-based user experience.

  • Lead architect, designer, and developer of coding, SCORM, testing of technical solutions; and assists in physical and logical database design.

  • Strong, industry-relevant knowledge and experience.

  • Analytical and process-oriented mindset.

  • Anticipates customer needs and presents proactive solutions. 

  • Ensure optimum performance of customer-focused sites by implementing rapid development tools/techniques and managing emergency procedural steps for maintenance and recovery.

  • Collaborate with Directors and Program Managers to coordinate and integrate projects into appropriate timelines and delivery schedules.

  • Communicate task status to all interested parties in a timely manner as well as communicate effectively with non-technical individuals and translate requirements into extensible, scalable, and maintainable applications.

  • Designing and building enterprise level learning management systems based on Moodle.

  • Perform design, configure, customize, and implement responsive and effective LMS systems.

  • Integrate with plugins when required, write scripts to automate Moodle routines and processes.

  • Planning and implementing API integrations with third parties when required.

  • Support Moodle/PHP implementations and resolve any technical issues.

  • Knowledge in front-end coding & architecture, server administration, database design and administration, back-end development, and other scripting/coding projects as assigned.  (Full Stack Developer)

  • Strong knowledge in authentication procedures and processes.  

  • Knowledge in cross-browser compliance, email server, and data analytics. 

  • Expert understanding of the full web development/design cycle and leverage user psychology for future development efforts.

  • Strong understanding of web development/design constraints/cost factors and ability to develop solutions to work within constraints.  

  • Consistently meets a majority of objectives as defined by management/leadership. 

  • Desire for continuous learning and improvement.

  • Collaborate with My Savvas Training stakeholders to coordinate and integrate projects into appropriate timelines and delivery schedules.

  • Demonstrate best-practice knowledge and skills to deliver an effective solution specific to client needs.

  • Communicate effectively with non-technical individuals and translate requirements into extensible, scalable and

  • maintainable applications.

  • Understand functional and technical specifications.

  • Communicate task status to all interested parties in a timely manner.

  • Coordinate with members of other teams to develop unique solutions that utilize appropriate, leading-edge

  • knowledge to help stakeholders realize business objectives.
