The successful candidate will facilitate evidence-based groups for caregivers with children from ages 0-8. The Parent Advocate will help plan and coordinate services for children and their families. The candidate will also provide case management and advocacy services to support families enrolled in community-based groups, Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation sites and clinic programs.

Specific responsibilities of this position include:

  • Facilitating on-going cycles of evidenced-based groups for caregivers of children ages 0-8.
  • Providing services and resources to support caregiver wellness and strengthen caregiver-child relationships.  
  • Outreaching to community members to bring awareness of program offerings to target populations
  • Recruiting and enrolling participants in community-based groups
  • Providing advocacy and case management services to caregivers enrolled in community-based groups, EarlyLearn and early childhood settings
  • Raising awareness of trauma, social emotional development and attachment relationships to caregivers and community organizations
  • Reducing stigma around mental health services
  • Identifying formal services and informal resources and provide referrals for families experiencing social-emotional, behavioral, or mental health challenges.
  • Collaboratively developing support plans that assist families with identifying needs, strengths and challenges.
  • Collaborating with families to ensure that their goals and needs are met
  • Documenting and tracking family’s goals, services provided to parent/caregiver and progress
  • Partnering with care providers and community supports to help families meet their goals
  • Developing a resource directory to identify formal services and informal services for families at risk of developing mental health challenges or experiencing mental health challenges
  • Conducting outreach/information sessions/workshops with providers with early childhood providers and community partners
  • Documenting demographic data on all individuals seen using JB’s electronic health system and/or other data systems
  • Participating in quality improvement activities, weekly supervision, and weekly staff meetings
  • Other duties assigned
The Parent Advocate position is part-time.

The Jewish Board is currently looking for talented Parent Advocates of all cultures, religions, races, and gender expressions with the following qualifications:
  • High school diploma required.
  • Lived experience as a parent navigating the child welfare system.
  • Ability to work with diverse social, cultural, economic groups.
  • Commitment to advocating for mental health.
  • Formal training as a parent/peer advocate and/or formal experience supporting families in navigating NYC systems.   
  • Bilingual Spanish-speaking is preferred.
