The Mishkon Division provides supports and services in a healthy and safe environment for individuals with intellectual/ developmental disabilities living in residential programs and in community settings. Our core values are to provide a healthy and safe environment that promotes person centered planning, community integration, and close collaboration with families and the community. This is all accomplished through an Orthodox Jewish lens, and with an understanding that staff, at all levels of the division, is the determining factor in achieving positive outcomes for our clients.

 POSITION OVERVIEW: The Lifeguard oversees the aquatic complex and ensures the safety of the patrons in the swimming area. The person should be able to work with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities and follow Board of Health and OPWDD guide lines.

RESPONSIBILITIES include but not limited to:

  • Ability to perform assigned tasks requiring physical strength and agility. 
  • Capability to react efficiently and tactfully with the campus and to be capable of enforcing regulations firmly and impartially. 
  • Ability to serve the residence at JBFCS with honesty, integrity and respect in full accordance with JBFCS Policies and regulations. 
  • Monitors activities at the pool to prevent accidents. Must perform water rescue, prevention techniques, first aid, and CPR if needed.
  • Cautions swimmers regarding unsafe practices and safety hazards; enforces and adheres to pool rules and regulations.
  • Duties may include a variety of maintenance tasks including written in daily log book and oral reports must be given during supervision, and having to skim and vacuum the pool when needed.
