The Kaplan House (Manhattan) provides therapeutic and support services to adolescent’s ages 17-21 who are referred to us through ACS and the Juvenile Justice system. Our residents have experienced significant trauma, resulting in behavioral, emotional, and functional/developmental issues, and Kaplan House offers an extensive independent living skills program, including vocational preparation, and educational services that assists youth towards reaching independence.


The Substance Abuse Coordinator provides substance abuse assessments, intervention, prevention and counseling to residents at Kaplan House. Additionally, the coordinator will refer, monitor and coordinate any and all substance abuse services that are provided in and outside of the program for current and former residents. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Completing substance abuse screening for all residents; Orienting new residents about drug education, prevention and treatment services; Facilitating groups for residents around substance abuse issues
  • Clinical/case management for residents deemed high risk; Collaborating with and educating staff on substance abuse issues as they relate clinically to residents behavior, functioning and risk
  • Documenting individual and group work in all of the manual, and electronic health records (State system, Connections, My Avatar, Alltrac, critical incident reports etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned

  • A Master’s degree with the ability to be licensed is required for this role
  • CASAC or CASAC eligible with equivalent experience in the field of substance abuse prevention and treatment a plus
  • Experience working with adolescents and young adults with substance abuse issues
