The Engineer has responsibilities that include performing transportation or traffic engineering work in the development of traffic signal timing, signal systems management and operations, design plans and specifications, reports, and budget estimates under the direction of senior engineering staff. The position will also require regular coordination with public agencies and consultants. Responsibilities will include representing Iteris at project status meetings with clients and vendors/contractors. You will work with an experienced team developing traffic signal timing plans and traffic operation solutions.

What you will be doing: 

  • Go into the field and inventory equipment in the traffic signal cabinet
  • Perform travel time runs/collect and interpret travel time data
  • Develop the existing conditions model in Synchro
  • Develop basic controller interval timings
  • Develop coordinated timing plans
  • Implement new traffic signal timing plans 
  • Adjust signal timing at field based on field traffic conditions 
  • Conduct traffic engineering study, traffic impact analysis, traffic operation study and safety study
  • You will also work with an experienced team developing planning level and detailed design plans, specification & estimate (PS&E) projects of various scope and size. Types of design projects include:
    • ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems)
    • Communication (fiber, wireless, cell modem, etc.) Design
    • Traffic Signal Design
    • Pavement Marking Design
    • Guide and Regulatory Sign Design
    • Maintenance of Traffic/Traffic Control Plans
    • Quantity Calculations
    • Construction Cost Estimates
    • Specification Development 
    • Travel will be required

 
 What you need to be successful in this role: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • Master's Degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • Professional Engineer (PE) in Texas or ability to obtain within one (1) year
  • Minimum five (5) years of traffic engineering experience with a background in traffic signal timing and/or ITS planning and design
  • Experience in traffic signal timing and signal operations
  • Experience working with Federal, State, and local municipalities
  • Experience with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) systems engineering process
  • Experience with ITS planning and Plans, Specifications & Estimate (PS&E) development
  • A passion for Planning/Traffic engineering and Smart Cities
