The Institute for Humane Studies (IHS) seeks a self-starting, motivated, detail-oriented Academic Relations Coordinator to join our Academic Relations team. This position provides administrative support for the department and specifically will directly support 2-3 team members who aim to build connections with scholars and scholarly communities. The position will also answer non-routine correspondence and assemble highly confidential and sensitive information.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Schedules and organizes activities such as meetings, travel, conferences, and department activities for department leadership.
  • Establishes, develops, maintains, and updates document library for the department. Retrieves information from files when needed.
  • Directly support specific team members to help them build and maintain relationships. Help build out mass communication initiatives, handle some correspondence with faculty, and ensure proper records are kept in the support of team Liaisons.
  • Maintenance, reporting requests and other technical projects within our database.
  • Works with the Conference team Program manager to ensure proper data is available to the team before traveling to events. Make sure all information collected at events is updated in our system.
  • Work with Liaisons, and other team members, to provide information and meeting preparation documents before they travel to events and conferences. Help highlight individuals to meet and important research being done by attendees who we should connect with.
  • Supports the maintenance of the department finances. Activities include processing and documenting check requests and travel reimbursements, documenting corporate credit card expenses, etc.

  • A well-developed ability to organize and prioritize tasks
  • A willingness to adapt to new and changing circumstances
  • A strong appreciation for classical liberal principles (individual rights, free markets, limited
  • government, voluntarism, and peace)
  • Familiarity with an academic environment, and the expectations and values of academic
  • audiences
  • Experience working with Asana, Salesforce, and/or Pardot (a plus)
