The general salary range for this position is $28.00 – 33.00 per hour. Salary offers will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, skills, training and education.

 

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s most effective animal advocacy organization, is seeking two (2) Specialist, Food Service Innovation for the Farm Animal Protection department. In this position you will provide day to day support to a team working with institutional food service providers and corporations to add more plant-based menu options, serve as a project manager and event organizer for pledged companies and accounts, and serve as a consultant to institutions interested in implementing more plant-based options on their menus.

Responsibilities:

  • Works internally with Food Service Innovation team, acting as a project manager and implementation lead to develop, deliver and maintain customized plant-based programs and initiatives, marketing programs, culinary recipes, trainings and events, and more to meet the needs of the food service management companies and self-operated accounts;
  • Works internally with the Food Service Innovation team, acting as a project manager to maintain and manage general team resource development, and carry out strategies and initiatives inclusive of, but not limited to, social media and website management, menu of services, event toolkits, media talking points, and more;
  • With the Food Service Innovation Managers (the company engagement leads), researches and establishes relationships with the top food service management companies and persuades them to adopt plant-based initiatives by leading and assisting the development and distribution of the annual Protein Sustainability Scorecard Survey and similar projects;
  • Project manages and assists the Food Service Innovation team at corporate meetings, events, and conferences, by presenting, organizing and networking, as needed;
  • Collaborates with team members to brainstorm creative ideas and ways to persuade and influence institutions and companies to increase plant-based options;
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities, as assigned, including continuing education.

 

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in nutrition and/or dietetics or another related field, or equivalent work experience required;
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in food and nutrition industry and/or project management roles;
  • Strong knowledge of food and foodservice industry procurement a plus;
  • Strong knowledge about factory farming, nutrition/health, and environmental issues a plus;
  • Strong knowledge about project management and event coordination a plus;
  • Must be willing and able to travel;
  • A valid driver’s license is required and a clean driving record is strongly preferred, with the ability to demonstrate and maintain a safe driving record while employed;
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook);
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines; high energy, self-motivated and proactive;
  • Ability to multitask and be flexible with regard to workload and assignments;
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Attention to detail and commitment to excellence demonstrated by the delivery of quality and timely outcomes;
  • Ability to work both independently and as an effective team member in a team environment;
  • Strong interest in animal protection issues preferred.
