TITLE: RISE Career Coach (AbilityOne) 

 

DIVISION: Human Resources 

 

FLSA STATUS: Exempt 

 

REPORTS TO:  AbilityOne Program Manager 

 

POSITION SUMMARY: Assist Goodwill of Greater Washington AbilityOne Associates in the areas of crisis management, skill development and career planning. Develop and implement strategies to assist associates to RISE to their highest level of personal success. This position is responsible and will be held accountable for behaving in accordance with divisional and organizational RISE values and expectations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

 

  1. Ensures Associates’ case files have current medical documentation and Individual Eligibility Evaluation (IEE) forms to meet AbilityOne compliance standards and other key documents per Division standards. 

 

  1. Plans, organizes, and conducts private Associate session(s) on an as needed basis to deliver support services.   

 

  1. Performs assessments of the physical, functional, social, and psychological needs of AbilityOne Associates to determine accommodations or equipment, adaptations and/or program eligibility as needed. 

 

  1. Performs assessments to identify abilities, talents, interests, and personality characteristics in order to develop the Associate’s work, educational, career and/or personal goals. Compiles occupational, educational, and economic information to aid Associates in making and carrying out these goals and objectives.  

 

  1. In GGW approved electronic database, accurately records case notes that are an objective, current, non-judgmental summary/description of the nature and content of the contact, and actions taken as a result of the contact that focus on the Associate’s service/support plan. Case notes will be recorded in the electronic database within 48 hours of the contact and follow GGW record-keeping standards.  Maintains current information (i.e., address, telephone number, etc) in electronic case file database. 

 

  1. Collaborates with Contracts Division supervisor/managers to conduct employment retention activities including site assessment, accommodations, on-the-job training plans and provision of training/support around work related activities for the successful employment of AbilityOne associates. All work-related support activities will be consistent with Contracts Division’s standard operating procedures with AbilityOne. 

 

  1. Provides Associate referrals to supportive services for housing, food, financial, literacy, debt counseling, mental health, domestic violence, child care, etc. and provides coaching on how to access these supportive services.  

 

 

Other Responsibilities: 

 

  1. Offers Associates timely and appropriate feedback when conveying information, interpreting assessment results and acknowledging efforts and progress. Provides frequent reinforcement and as needed, alternative actions or redirection. 

 

  1. Demonstrates RISE core values and person-centered coaching to establish positive interpersonal relationships by helping Associates feel valued and included in discussions and decisions. 

 

  1. Assures individual rights of Associates are protected by educating Associates and their supervisor(s), as agreed upon by the Associate, on job accommodations, assistive technology devices, adaptive work equipment, natural supports, and/or guidance on behavior management techniques. 

 

  1. Provides ongoing support until the Associate has met his/her goals or no longer needs or desires AbilityOne services.  

 

  1. Assists in conducting workshops for Associates and Managers.   

 

  1. Assists in conducting outreach to community-based organizations and social service agencies through service presentations, meetings, and attendance at networking events to increase program visibility and recruit. 

 

  1. Other job related duties as assigned  

 

 

Supervisory Responsibility: 

 

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.  

 

 

Required Qualifications: 

 

  1. Bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation counseling, training and development, education, or related field, with one or more years of experience providing career coaching. Five or more years of related experience can substitute the four-year degree.  

 

  1. Two or more years of direct related experience in providing life or career coaching to diverse populations. 

 

  1. Access to reliable transportation to delivery services in remote locations, attend trainings, and meetings.   

 

  1. If applicable, ability to pass a Federal background investigation to gain access to AbilityOne contract sites to provide coaching services.   

 

  1. Ability to maintain confidentiality of Associates’ information. 

 

  1. Knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA) or ability to obtain KSA in Americans with Disability Act, job accommodations, assistive technology, learning styles, and Universal Design for Learning. 

 

  1. Demonstrated skill and ability to apply life and career coaching theories and techniques in the delivery of services to diverse population.   

 

  1. Demonstrated skill and ability to establish and maintain a customer focus to ensure that the expectations of stakeholders (e.g., persons served, employers, referring agencies, etc.) are met.  

 

  1. Demonstrated skill in active listening. 

 

  1. Demonstrated ability to be flexible and thrive in changing conditions.  

 

  1. Demonstrated interpersonal sensitivity to include patience, tolerance, enthusiasm, compassion and empathy.  Ability to develop rapport with a wide variety of diverse individuals.    

 

  1. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills and attention to detail. 

 

  1. Demonstrated problem solving skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast paced environment.   

 

  1. Demonstrated ability to self-direct and work independently.   

 

  1. Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking principles. 

 

  1. Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher) 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

 

  1. Bilingual  

 

  1. American Sign Language proficiency 

 

  1. Experience working with individuals from diverse social-economic backgrounds    

 

 

Physical Demands 

 

SedentaryLifting and/or carrying of up to 10 pounds.  Walking and standing are required only occasionally.  Extended periods of work seated at a desk.  Repetitive hand motions while using keyboard.  Prolonged use of computer. 

 

Work Environment 

 

Limited - General office environment infrequently exposed to extreme atmospheric conditions (temperature, noise, fumes, dust, etc.)
