Reviewed/reviewed.com, a part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, is seeking a professional journalist experienced in quick-turnaround journalism to join us as a full-time Managing Editor, Lifestyle leading our coverage of categories including Style, Beauty, and Health & Fitness.

 

The ideal candidate should possess strong management skills and an appreciation for smart service journalism. You’ll be part of a rapidly growing team that’s responsible for shaping daily content that enriches people’s lives. You’ll also have a chance to share your work across the USA TODAY Network—and beyond.

This position requires editorial management experience and a deep understanding of how consumers research potential purchases and how service journalism can help solve common problems. You’ll head a team of editors and writers with expertise in specified areas and help brainstorm how to approach topics we don’t yet cover. You’ll also recruit and manage freelance talent to further expand our coverage. Previous experience with affiliate links is a plus.

 

This is a full-time, salaried role working 40 hours per week. Our ideal candidate will be an experienced editor who demonstrates an understanding of content production, possesses excellent project management skills, and has a strong commitment to journalistic ethics, as well as a proven track record of making data-driven content decisions.

 

While this is a management position, we expect that everyone on the editorial team is willing and eager to create content regularly.

 

This role will also require attendance on certain holidays or big sales, including but not limited to Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Amazon Prime Day, and CES.

 

Reviewed is one of the most influential sources on the internet when it comes to reviews of products like appliances, consumer technology, lifestyle products, and more. You’ll learn on the job and become a key contributor to a team of talented, like-minded product nerds.

 

The Managing Editor, Lifestyle role reports to the Executive Editor, Growth. We are open to remote employees, but staffers are also able to work out of our (truly awesome) labs in Cambridge, MA.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of staff editors and writers covering style, beauty, and health & fitness product reviews, consumer education, and other related content.
  • Guide editors to develop and maintain a robust content strategy, including managing a regular content calendar and ensuring publication deadlines are met on a daily basis.
  • Coach staff and help them grow their skillsets, subject matter expertise, and career paths.
  • Work alongside business intelligence, search, audience, and business development teams to optimize content and coverage opportunities.
  • Communicate with internal stakeholders from production, audience, and commerce teams to ensure smooth internal operations and consistent voice across departments. 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or master’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5-7 years’ experience editing and producing high-quality, rapid-turnaround editorial content.
  • Ability to lead a team of editors and writers to produce high quality work daily.
  • Ability to spot, develop, and nurture editorial talent.
  • Ability to quickly edit stories to be clear and succinct.
  • An understanding of deals content, readers’ needs, shopping habits, and budget constraints.
  • A basic understanding of consumer search trends and shopping habits, especially regarding deal hunting and shopping.
  • Competitive drive to be a leading editorial voice.
  • An understanding of journalistic ethics and commitment to upholding high ethical standards.
  • Basic photo-editing skills and experience with programs like PhotoShop or Canva is a plus.
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices.
  • Experience with affiliate networks, like Amazon Affiliates, Skimlinks, Impact Radius, Trackonomics, or others.
  • Employment is contingent on passing a pre-employment, post-offer background check.

Our Work Environment:

 

Office work takes place in an open-floor-plan office, with several smaller meeting rooms and test labs throughout the building. Regardless of whether you’re onsite or remote, you’ll be expected to be accessible to the team throughout the day via face-to-face communication (whether in-person or over video calls), email, phone, and Slack.
