Product Photographer

Reviewed/, a part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, is seeking an experienced Product Photographer to become a full-time addition to our creative team.


The ideal candidate will be someone with experience in both product and lifestyle photography, understands various lighting techniques, and enjoys the challenge of shooting a wide variety of products in creative ways.


Our mission is to help people make the smartest decisions about what they buy and get the most out of the stuff they already own. We do this by providing our audience informative, enjoyable, and genuinely useful content. As a Product Photographer, you’ll contribute to this by providing imagery for that content.


The Product photographer must be enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and proactive. You will shoot and edit photos, maintain the studio, and keep track of inventory. The ideal candidate will have a deep curiosity about the world, an appreciation for smart service journalism, and an affinity for all things photography, art, and design.


The Product Photographer will also help build and curate our product photo library in our digital asset management system. They’ll be part of a rapidly growing team and responsible for producing daily content across all media platforms. Their work will also be shared across the USA TODAY Network and beyond.

The Product Photographer’s work will help aid in our mission. They’ll have the opportunity to learn on the job and become a key asset to a team of talented, like-minded product nerds.


While we strongly prefer a photographer with professional experience, we are open to photographers who are new to digital news media, provided they demonstrate an understanding of quick-turnaround content production and have the willingness to learn and grow on the job. Applicant must submit a portfolio for consideration.


The Product Photographer role reports to our Senior Staff Photographer and works out of our (truly awesome) labs in Cambridge, MA. This is a full-time, salaried role working 40 hours per week.


This role will require attendance on certain holidays or big sales, including but not limited to Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Amazon Prime Day.



  • Perform basic editing (cropping, color correction, resizing.)
  • Prepare photos, captions, and credits for publication across all platforms.
  • Photograph a variety of products with various lighting, backgrounds, and layouts.
  • Always maintain a clean and professional set environment.
  • Possess a strong sense of lighting and composition.
  • Create composites when necessary for web and social platforms.
  • Add to and curate.
  • Ensure synchronization of photo schedules with editorial and image posting deadlines.
  • Maintain excellent image quality in line with.
  • Focus on curating a diverse range of photos in keeping with our diversity, equity and inclusion goals.
  • Additional duties as required, or as assigned by the Art Director/Senior Staff Photographer. 


  • Bachelor's or master’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years of experience as a product photographer in an editorial or advertising photo department
  • A strong product photography portfolio.
  • Knowledge of Photoshop and Lightroom.
  • Proficiency in multiple camera models (Nikon, Canon, & Panasonic.)
  • Working knowledge of studio lighting and various light modifiers.
  • Highly organized, easygoing, adaptable, autonomous, and collaborative working style.
  • Enthusiastic, versatile team player willing to bring inspiration and ideas to fast-developing projects and assignments.
  • Impeccable time-management skills.
  • A photography background that includes product photography.
  • Proactive problem solver and great collaborator.
  • Sound editorial judgment relating to the appropriateness of photograph selections, as well as a sense of current images styles.
  • A love and passion for photography and visual storytelling.
  • Strong attention to detail, with expertise in Microsoft applications.
  • Familiarity with content and digital asset management systems is a plus.
  • Ability to create photo illustration is a plus.
  • Employment is contingent on passing a pre-employment, post-offer background check.

Our Work Environment:


Office work takes place in an open-floor-plan office, with several smaller meeting rooms and test labs throughout the building. Regardless of whether you’re onsite or remote, you’ll be expected to be accessible to the team throughout the day via face-to-face communication (whether in-person or over video calls), email, phone, and Slack.
