This position facilitates the design and production of a variety of Zoo communications, including graphics and print collateral.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Layout in-park signage, including animal IDs, sales/marketing signs, event signs, some exhibit elements and restaurant menu boards
• Design maps, graphs and other graphical images for animal IDs
• Research materials and production processes for graphics, inspect proofs for accuracy including production standards for new signage and graphics
• Order and track delivery of graphics including coordination of installation details with IT
• Coordinate inventory, installation and removal of Zoo graphics
• Conceptualize, design and produce selected promotional collateral, such as event hand-outs, map inserts, activity sheets and other collateral
• Maintain digital records
• Archive projects and samples of completed collateral
• Maintain logo database (Zoo and sponsor logos)
• Serve as the liaison for sign shops and graphic printing firms
• Help coordinate the graphics printing production process to ensure quality
• Help route graphics through established proofing system
• Utilize designs created by the Zoo’s ad agency for transfer to different mediums and applications in the park
• Develop and produce new collateral as assigned
• Install signage and props throughout the park
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
• Must have portfolio
• Experience in print production or advertising a plus
• Coursework in advertising, marketing, publishing, print work and production preferred
• Strong design abilities and good sense of typography
• Understanding of material costs, as well as familiarity with various materials
• Ability to work on more than one design at a time and under tight deadlines
• Able to communicate effectively and openly accept creative direction 
• Valid driver license with acceptable motor vehicle record to maintain zoo standards of insurability

Education and/or Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or arts/fine arts, or certificate, diploma or degree from an art institute preferred
• One to three years of experience in print production, advertising or related field preferred
• Expert command of Office Suite, InDesign, PhotoShop, Illustrator and other Adobe products required
• Preference will be given to candidates who can freehand preliminary sketches and designs (samples needed)

Physical Demands: 
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or or move up to 25 pounds.
