The Brio Editorial Director position exists to provide editorial direction for Focus on the Family’s print magazine for teen girls, Brio. The Editorial Director manages the content plan, writing, editing aggregation, and general acquisition of content for Brio magazine and related Brio channels such as special publishing projects, including e-newsletters, e-zines, social media, and other online formats. This position contributes to the execution of all Brio efforts as well as provides leadership and direction for the Brio editorial and art staff.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
 

Leads as Executive Producer for all Brio editorial planning, as well as other print, digital, and online publishing activities and determines the content that is to be published

Oversees content production for a Brio print, social media, and online/mobile magazine

Provides reports and dashboards for ministry promotion, communication, and reporting

Selects, develops, enriches, motivates, supervises, and evaluates online, digital and print editorial staff; monitors and works to consistently improve staff morale

Supports ministry-wide integrated campaigns and understands the importance of collaborative relationships within the ministry.Works closely with other content channels to ensure consistent messaging

Works to ensure that online social media presence and content supports the needs of target audience and works to build readership and constituent relationships

Handles or approves content edits of editorial copy according to Brio audience needs and Focus standards

Leads and participates in brainstorming, concepting and design for new content channels and resources

Manages and leads Art Directors in providing artwork for new and ongoing Brio content and resources

Cultivates an entrepreneurial attitude that drives innovation to improve readership and ministry experience

Initiates new project ideas as well as product improvement plans

Monitors performance against budget, plans and other standards

Collaborates with Marketing/Circulation departments to increase reach and readership

Stays current with target audiences through research, reading, personal contact and observation of other print and online publishing efforts inside and outside the ministry

Other Duties/Responsibilities:
 

Performs other duties, including but not limited to duties as assigned, some of which may include the development and creation of a variety of copyrightable works (e.g., 

print, photography, film, music, visual arts, etc.) for distribution in any and all media and formats (such as television, radio, internet, wireless, DVD, satellite and digital) on a 

world-wide basis, all of which shall be for the benefit of Focus on the Family

Working Environment/Physical Requirements:
 

Ability to handle stress associated with multiple deadlines
 

Some travel may be required

Personal Characteristics:

Knowledge/Experience:
 

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in English, Journalism or Communication, or equivalent experience
 

7-10 years creative writing/editing experience; 5-7 years in a publishing house
 

5+ years of experience managing a Communications department with print and online focus
 

5+ years of experience managing a staff of art and editorial staff
 

Thorough understanding of Focus on the Family mission, philosophy, values, and objectives
 

Thorough understanding of magazine publishing

Skills, Abilities and Special Talents/Gifts:
 

Excellent English language and grammar skills and grasp of fundamentals of good page layout and design
 

Creative in conceptualizing and steering content development from editorial development through print and online posting
 

Ability to create and carry out complex plans or motivate others to do so
 

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
 

Strong people skills

Stewardship Requirements:
 

Indirect budget decisions for publications  
 
 
Salary Range: $76,956 to $88,398/yr.
