About the Position
 

Community Outreach Group is seeking canvassers to serve as a part of a Voces de la Frontera Action’s electoral outreach campaign. Voces de la Frontera Action is a national leader in the movement for immigrant and worker rights and the largest grassroots Latinx membership organization in Wisconsin. Led by low-wage immigrant workers and students, Voces works to protect and expand civil rights and workers’ rights through leadership development, community organizing, and collective empowerment.

 

As a canvasser, you will travel door to door to talk on behalf of Voces de la Frontera Action’s electoral outreach campaign. You will be responsible for having a certain number of conversations per day. You will not fundraise. If you’re ready to organize in your community, we urge you to apply!

 

Primary Responsibilities
 

This is an entry-level role. In this position, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Work door-to-door or in high-traffic areas to talk to community members about local issues.
  • Track and report on your conversations daily in the VAN database system.

 

Requirements

  • Comfortable with, knowledgeable of, and enthusiastic about discussing topics related to  immigrant, worker and student rights, politics, and public policy.
  • Must have physical stamina to stand/walk for long periods (up to 6 hours per day) while meeting and talking to people.
  •  
  • Have strong ties in the community you are applying to work.
  • Flexibility to work weekdays and weekends.
  • Ability to memorize and recite provided scripts and statements.
  • Ability to collect information such as name, zip code, phone number and/or email address.
  • Consistently meet daily and weekly conversation goals.
  • Understand how to use a tablet/phone to sign up for shifts and to track and submit data.
  • Excellent communication skills including active listening and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work within a team and independently.
  • Good time management skills to fulfill goals within a specific period.
  • Valid driver’s license.

 

There is no formal education requirement for this position. Candidates who are bilingual in Spanish and English are highly encouraged to apply.

Preferred Skills
 

  • Previous experience with data entry and reporting functions.
  • Previous paid or volunteer canvass experience (including Census outreach work.)
  • Telemarketing or retail marketing experience.
  • Social service or organizing experience.

 

Salary and Benefits


This is an hourly position with the Community Outreach Group, with an hourly rate of $20. Based on performance, there is an opportunity to be promoted to a lead position that pays $22/hour. This is a short-term position with an expected end date of November 8, 2022.
