The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) will serve and function as ClearCaptions’ principal technology executive focused on the planning, design, implementation, and operations of the ClearCaptions networks and associated software.  The CTO will be at the helm of ClearCaptions’ and Vimient’s technology evolution.  Vimient, a new line of business, is dedicated to improving the quality of life of seniors and their caregivers. Vimient is a service that integrates smart technology with live care agents to provide support and peace of mind for families of seniors living independently. As a member of the company's senior management team, this person will work with other members of the team to develop the future strategy and technological capabilities for ClearCaptions, Vimient and its customers.


Reporting to the chief executive officer (CEO), the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) will be intimately involved in setting the overall company strategy as part of the executive team.  He/she will then be the technical visionary for ClearCaptions’ technology, products, and development processes.  As a telecommunications carrier, CTO will drive high reliability and continuous uptime.  The CTO will also be tasked with enabling disruptive innovation through creating various new products to deliver an expanding corporate strategy in the areas of telecommunications, captioning, and products and services to enable seniors to live better lives.  

This position may be remote.  


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead various product development efforts that include core infrastructure, mobile software, IoT, and proprietary hardware and software platform.
  • Develop the multi-year systems and network strategy and software and hardware technology roadmap and for the company spanning architecture, network design, product development, systems engineering, production support, network/systems management, and escalated customer support.
  • Enhance and continually refresh the long-term technology strategy that aligns to and enables the strategic goals of ClearCaptions.   Execute this strategy meeting timelines and budget.
  • Work with the Director of Technology Operations to develop deployment plans to optimize the efficiency of network builds and maintenance. Achieve ClearCaptions’ deployment targets in time, functionality, capability and cost.
  • Meet all financial and operating targets for the technology function.
  • Provide timely, accurate and thorough product direction, execution status and deliverables to executive management.
  • Take an active talent management approach to onboard, mentor and inspire a diverse, highly engaged and skilled leadership team.  Continually upgrade talent through a rigorous approach to talent development, succession planning and recruitment.
  • Drive financial improvement through ongoing improvement to operations and architecture.
  • Partner with the VP of Strategy Execution to ensure timely and quality delivery of strategic programs.

DESIRED OUTCOMES

In the next 12 to 18 months the successful CTO will:

  • Complete the building of new features for current caption products.
  • Envision an architecture and plan to build the next generation of products to complement the caption product line.  
  • Create and manage a three-year technology strategy and roadmap.  
  • Deliver ongoing improvements to quality and reliability.
  • Ensure the end-to-end adoption of the ClearCaptions Goal Management and Delivery Framework.  

ClearCaptions is seeking a highly respected and highly strategic business/technology executive leader to serve as its Chief Technology Officer to  lead the efforts of continuously transforming technical concepts into reality for ClearCaptions and its customers.  This individual should have a balance of strategic leadership and vision with a working knowledge of leading network technology.  The CTO needs to be highly collaborative and able to work effectively and confidently with a driven and technical executive team.  This individual should be a strong engineering leader who can build immediate credibility with the senior leadership team and the organization through their execution of corporate strategies. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to drive disruptive strategies through the exploration of new technologies.  In addition, he or she must be able to effectively represent ClearCaptions as well as attract leading talent to the organization.


IDEAL EXPERIENCE 
 

Scope of leadership

  • 15+ years leadership in a technology function including the recent 5 years in an executive level. 
  • 5+ years leadership of remote, dispersed employee teams required; including 3+ years with onshore/offshore partners preferred.
  • A proven track record of effective leadership in scaling a development organization to meet the needs of a high-growth (20% YOY growth) company, particularly integrating multiple technologies and leading custom development as necessary.
  • Technical and domain expertise
  • Deep experience in software development, hardware development, preferably in high transaction consumer facing environments with complex security and operational requirements.
  • Experience with complex systems-level technologies that impact networking topologies on a large scale.
  • Demonstrated experience in the introduction of innovative technologies which improved a company’s speed-to-market and adaptability to support new products and services.
  • Experience developing mission critical cloud-based voice technology using agile development methodologies.
  • Experience in health care applications and associated regulatory frameworks.

Product delivery

  • A track record of developing comprehensive strategic technology and product roadmaps for technology organizations, coupled with successful implementation of those strategies.
  • Technical degree
  • A bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, software engineering or electrical engineering is required, other relevant education will be considered.  A master’s degree is a plus.
