Under general supervision, to perform a variety of routine mechanical tasks involved in the basic maintenance of mobile and stationary equipment, including tires and fluid service for various types of vehicles and equipment.  This position may be responsible for maintaining inventory of items including tires, filters, oil, and the delivery of all types of fuel.
This position exercises no supervision.
Perform routine, light maintenance such as repair and replacement of tires and wheels; lube/oil/ filter services for City-operated mobile equipment and their components, which may include automobiles, tractors, small and large diesel trucks, earthmoving equipment, or pavement construction equipment; inspecting and servicing a variety of small gasoline engines and pumps.
Maintain lubrication records on all equipment.  Order replacement parts and materials as needed; issue equipment or perform fuel and oil checkout; maintain accurate inventory records.
Respond as appropriate to calls in the field such as operating tire service truck to repair flats; boosting equipment using special equipped truck; providing fueling and fluid services using mobile service unit.
Clean and maintain work area.
Depending upon work site, will assist customers in operating computerized fuel and oil dispensing system; wash and vacuum vehicles; and/or answer telephone and or radio dispatch work.
Maintenance of fuel valves under pavement.
Inspect and report to the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor any condition or non-compliance issues of Fleet’s fuel tanks and pumps.
Handle waste oil and operate the oil filter crusher.
Perform other job related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge of:
Tools, equipment and procedures used in the maintenance of various sizes and types of vehicles and municipal equipment; hand and power tools; mobile equipment and their components; and/or various sizes and types of tires.
Recordkeeping, inventory, and purchasing procedures.
Safety practices and procedures used in equipment maintenance and tire repair.
Underground storage tanks as it relates to an Operator Certificate.
Skill to:
Use and care for tools associated with light mechanical repair and maintenance work.
Operate a variety of vehicles, equipment and tools which could include hand and power tools, testing equipment, tire service truck, fuel service truck, tire changing machine, air operated lube equipment, vehicle washing equipment, various jacks and lifting equipment, cars, heavy trucks and machinery, tire balancer, boost truck and miscellaneous equipment.
Safely operate a motor vehicle.

Ability to:
Maintain records and files, assemble and organize data and perform accurate computations and tabulations, test and repair equipment.
Use Fleet Maintenance software.
Diagnose defective and/or malfunctioning equipment and perform necessary repairs or maintenance.
Follow oral and written instructions.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both internally and externally.

Experience and Training Guidelines:
Any combination equivalent to experience and training to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying.  Knowledge, skills, and abilities may be obtained through:
Lube and Tire Technician I
Experience working in a fast-paced industrial environment preferred. 
General mechanical experience in using hand and power tools safely is required.

Formal or informal education or training, which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.

Lube and Tire Technician II
Two (2) years of proven experience in mechanical maintenance work with a focus on vehicle servicing and tire repair for various sizes and types of mobile equipment; servicing of light and medium construction equipment; servicing of hand and power tools such as hydraulic jack, air jack, drill press and small engines; and operate equipment to include, crane truck, dozer, backhoe, tractor, refuse truck, car, pick-up, wrecker and different equipment used in street maintenance work is required.
A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
Completion of the City’s Core Values training series.
License or Certificate:

Lube and Tire Technician I
Possession of, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire date, an appropriate, valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required.
Possession of, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire date, a Class C UST Facility Operator Certificate is required.
Lube and Tire Technician II        
A valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with HAZMAT endorsement is required.
A Class A/B UST Facility Operator Certificate is required.                                          
Special Requirements:
Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:
Ability to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, and climb.
Exposure to cold, heat, noise, outdoors, vibration, confining work space, chemicals, explosive materials, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards.
Ability to travel to different work sites.
With or without accommodation, ability to lift up to 90 pounds.

Considered Essential Personnel in the event of City Offices closure and reports to work as assigned by the Director.
