Under the general supervision of the Headguards, Pool Managers or Aquatic Manager, enforces swimming pool safety rules and regulations; prevents injuries by minimizing hazardous situations and/or behaviors; and engages in general tasks associated with the operation of the Adventure Cove Swimming Pool.
This position exercises no supervision over other City of Abilene staff.
Must be courteous and provide quality customer service.
Responsible for monitoring the swimming pool and surrounding areas to enforce safety rules and regulations. Cautions swimmers about unsafe activities including unsafe swimming practices.
Perform rescue maneuvers on swimmers in distress using necessary life saving techniques and administer minor first aid.
Accurately completes the necessary daily forms. Performs opening and closing procedures.
Responsible for cleaning the pool, deck furnishing and pool area.
 Regularly lifts, carries, and pulls up to 40 pounds.
Perform other job related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge of:
Understanding of pool rules and procedures.
Knowledge of the methods, principles and techniques involved in lifesaving, first-aid and water safety.
Skill to:
Perform necessary lifesaving procedures.
Operate equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job.
Ability to:
Respond quickly in an emergency situation.
Follow pool policies and enforce pool rules.
Perform routine maintenance.
Effectively communicate with the public and staff.
Assist in pool cleaning and maintenance; keeps the pool deck and adjoining areas clean and free of potential hazards.
Performs routine janitorial duties to include, but not limited to, cleaning mirrors, windows, blinds, counters, furniture, sweeping, mopping, dusting, emptying trash, picking up litter, replenishing paper products, cleaning restrooms, and shower areas.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both internally and externally.

Experience and Training Guidelines:
Any combination equivalent to experience and training to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying.  Knowledge, skills, and abilities may be obtained through:

Previous work experience as a lifeguard is preferred.
Education and/or training should be commensurate with the requirements for obtaining required certifications.
License or Certificate:

American Red Cross Lifeguard CPR/AED For Professional Rescuer Certification required or acquired before employment.
Starguard and Ellis & Associates Certifications must crossover within 30 days of hire.
CPR Certification or acquire one prior to start of season.
Special Requirements:
Must be able to lift, carry, and/or pull up to 40 pounds.
Ability to work a flexible work schedule, which includes nights and weekends.
Ability to work in outdoor conditions and in extreme heat.
Must maintain physical ability to perform essential job duties.

Ability to pass water skills test.
