GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision of Aquatics Manager, responsibilities include maintain and, monitor the safety of patrons; enforce policies and procedures; ensure efficient and effective operation of Adventure Cove including personnel management and training; maintain operations of aquatic center including first aid, rotations, and scheduling for staff; performing necessary janitorial and pool cleanings; conduct chemical analysis/testing.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

This position supervises the Lifeguards.

IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Assist in the management of the day to day operations of Adventure Cove Aquatic Center.

Supervise staff, enforce policies and practices, be courteous, and provide quality customer service.

Check filtration processes and chemical application.

Assist in the management of the lifeguards including scheduling, staff assignments, rotations, and scanning procedures.

Maintain records, reports, and information regarding hourly patron attendance, water chemistry, daily weather conditions, and incidents or accidents.

Perform Lifeguard duties as required.

Perform routine janitorial duties to include, but not limited to, cleaning mirrors, sweeping, emptying trash, replenishing paper products, clean restrooms and shower areas.

Ensures compliance with federal, state, and/or local laws pertaining to pool operations.

Prepares a variety of reports and other documents including operating, activity, and statistical reports, and promotional materials and other forms of documentation.

Address and correct staff behavior and participate in the coaching process. Maintain responsiveness to the staff’s needs, including training and development needs.

Perform other job related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

Care and maintenance of aquatic center supplies and equipment include filtrations, test kits and pumps.

Understanding of the principles and techniques involved in lifesaving, first aid, and water safety.

State and local laws pertaining to a municipal aquatic center.


Skill to:

Make independent judgements and decisions based on standard policy and procedure.

Implement and evaluate programs and activities within departmental guidelines.

Communicate and interact effectively with co-workers, managers, subordinates and the general public sufficient to convey information and to receive work direction.


Ability to:

Respond quickly in emergency situations.

Complete and maintain accurate records and reports.

Perform basic math and cash handling skills.

Learn the point of sale (POS) computer system (Active).

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both internally and externally.

Experience and Training Guidelines:

Any combination equivalent to experience and training to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying. Knowledge, skills, and abilities may be obtained through:

Experience:

Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Lifeguard or a Head Lifeguard is preferred.

American Red Cross Lifeguard CPR/AED For Professional Rescuer Certification is required.

American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification is preferred.


Education/Training:

A high school diploma or GED is required.

License or Certificate:

American Red Cross Lifeguard CPR/AED For Professional Rescuer Certification is required.

American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification is preferred.

Special Requirements:

Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:

With or without accommodation, ability to lift, carry, and/or pull up to 75 pounds.

Ability to work a flexible work schedule, which includes nights and weekends.

Ability to work in outdoor conditions and in extreme heat.

Frequently working around hazardous chemicals.
