ROLE SUMMARY
 

The growth of BMC has created the opportunity for Programmer Systems II/Sr. Programmer) who will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software programs based on business requirements. Daily tasks may include requirements analysis, design, planning, coding, testing, documentation, error/exception handling, performance improvements and business process implementation, performance, and technology improvements. This is a pivotable role in helping BMC achieve its growth plan.

· Provides operational and technical support for enterprise applications/systems by engaging in the various phases of the software development lifecycle, basic systems administration, and troubleshooting.

· Explores new applications, software functionality, and features and consults regularly with administrative departments to evaluate their application and data needs to recommend/deliver suitable solutions.

· Coordinates with Systems Operations to design, evaluate, and enhance solution architectures in support of systems availability, reliability, security, and integrity.

· Researches and devises creative methods to solve a variety of complex technical issues.

· Collaborates with members of the systems Operations team to promote new and updated code through the testing and production environments and actively participates in troubleshooting of production applications.

· Coordinates with business stakeholders, vendors, business, and IT leadership to provide technology support for strategic business projects.

· Works closely with Systems Operations as well as external data security experts to support security evaluations, penetration testing, and security defect remediation.

· Assures application/system availability by coordinating software installations, patches, and upgrades with administrative departments.

· Identifies and evaluates advancements in technology best practices, and vendor solutions to continuously improve quality, efficiency, reliability, and data security.

· Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

· Minimum of 4-6 years’ experience

· Bachelor’s degree (BA) in information systems or related subjects from a four-year college or university

· Strong foundation with HTML and JavaScript

· In-depth understanding of programming languages, including Python and .Net

· Experience or familiarity with various software programs including but not limited to: ETL tools, AWS, Azure or other cloud-based environments, Java, Pentaho, Docker, Azure, Visual Studio/Code, SQL Server Management Studio, Power BI, Git, Azure DevOps, Linux, Apache, Tomcat, etc.

· Relational database design and application development (PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL)

· Demonstrates critical thinking, problem-solving skills and innovative solutions

· Plan and perform highly complex or technical work where no procedures or standard methods are available

· Demonstrates strong technical writing skills and the ability to verbally communicate with peers, other IT personnel and business stakeholders

· Ability to work well in a team but also has the capability to work on projects independently, support team in various assignments and exercise good judgment

Preferred:

· ITIL Foundations

· Certification covering Business Requirements Management

· Various development language certifications as appropriate

· Systems architecture certifications
