Development Staff Accountant, Corporate Home Office - Boston, MA

General Statement of Duties: Responsible for the daily accounting functions and financial reporting for a portfolio of development projects. Act as the main point of contact regarding all financial accounting matters for assigned portfolio. Provide accurate and timely information to internal departments and external clients.

Supervision Received: Works under the general direction of Development Accounting Supervisor.

Essential Functions of the Position:

 Preparation of monthly requisitions and reporting
 Project cash management including the preparation of bank reconciliations
 Understand project models and pro formas including the financing, equity, and tax credit basis assumptions
 Work closely with development directors on budget analysis and tax credit delivery projections
 Cost certification, investor and agency specific report, audit and tax return workpaper preparation
 Work closely with the accounting, asset management, legal, acquisition, and development departments on acquisition, construction financing and permanent loan closings
 Interaction with lenders and investors regarding requisition funding
 Interaction with external auditors regarding year-end audit and special reporting requirements
 Submission of equity installment requests and correspondence with investors regarding same
 Willingness to learn all aspects of the federal and state low-income housing tax credit and historic tax credit programs
 Ability to recognize inefficiencies and provide solutions to streamline processes and procedures
 Review development invoices for required approvals and appropriate coding
 Work on special projects and ad hoc reporting as needed

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
Experience: One to three years general ledger maintenance, financial statement preparation and month-end close experience preferred. Year-end audit workpaper preparation experience highly desirable. Knowledge of real estate, development accounting and low-income housing tax credits preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Solid computer skills with Microsoft Excel proficiency. Experience using Microsoft Word preferred. Experience with accounting software necessary with property management accounting software (Yardi) preferred but not required. Hard-working, self-motivated with an ability to work independently. Must have good analytical skills and be able to apply knowledge gained to assigned projects. Must be detail oriented with proven organizational skills. Must possess a desire and willingness to learn and move up within the organization. Ability to consistently meet deadlines and work under pressure due to work complexity and time sensitivity. Due to time sensitivity of work, position may occasionally require extended hours on during work days, holidays, and/or weekends during peak periods of business.
