SUMMARY:

Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) works according to legal and ethical guidelines to ensure the correct and safe supply of medical products to Borrego Health patients. The PIC is involved in maintaining and improving people's health by providing advice and information, and supplying prescription medicines.

COMPENSATION:

$140,000.00 - $150,000.00 Salary  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administrative Functions:

1. Dispensing prescription medicines to the public, checking dosage and ensuring that medicines are correctly and safely supplied and labeled (pharmacists are legally responsible for any dispensing errors).
2. Supervising the preparation of any medicines (not all are supplied ready made-up by the manufacturer).
3. Keeping a register of controlled drugs for legal and stock control purpose.
4. Liaising with doctors about prescriptions.
5. Liaising with affiliated clinic managers and conducting quarterly audits and inspections to insure compliance with State and Federal drug storage and handling.
6. Selling over-the-counter medicines.
7. Counseling and advising the public on the treatment of minor ailments and any adverse side-effects of medicines or potential interactions with other medicines and treatments.
8. Preparing doses and cassette boxes, usually for the elderly but also for those with memory, learning difficulties, where tablets are placed in compartments for specified days of the week.
9. Providing specialist health check services, such as measuring and fitting compression hosiery, monitoring blood pressure and cholesterol levels, diabetes screening and pregnancy testing.
10. Overseeing the ordering and safe storage of medical products and, in some cases, arranging the delivery of prescription medicines to patients.
11. Keeping up-to-date with current pharmacy practice, new drugs and their uses.
12. Maintaining computerized records.
13. Managing, supervising and training pharmacy practice, new drugs and their uses.
14. Selling healthcare and other products, such as toiletries, cosmetics and photographic items.
15. Budgeting and financial management.
16. Promoting sales and developing the business.
 

Staff Supervision:

1. Responsible for collection and approval of time cards and benefit requests for staff under his/her supervision. Facilitates processing of payroll by submitting time cards and benefit requests to the Accounting Department in the time frame prescribed by Borrego Health Policy and the needs of the Department.
2. Provides staff training as necessary and ensures compliance with new employee and annual training requirements.
3. Evaluates staff performance either directly or in collaboration with co-management.
4. Conducts employee corrective action, provides guidance and conducts annual evaluations.
5. Responsible for ensuring staff compliance with all Borrego Health policies and procedures, and all applicable laws and regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA.
 

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
 

1. Must posses a valid license to practice as a pharmacist issued by the State of California Board of Pharmacy.
2. Personal qualities which will permit the PIC to work with the staff and residents of the community in such a manner as to earn their confidence and respect. The PIC should demonstrate concern for the welfare of all people served by Borrego

Special Conditions of Employment:
 

1. All staff that is presently working within a clinic is required to have a Current and Valid CPR and First Aide certification on file with the Human Resources Department. This is for clinical and administrative staff. This new license requirement is mandatory for continued employment, CPR and First Aide certification must be obtained though the American Heart Association. Internet certificates do not comply and for this reason are not valid.
