PHYSICAL THERAPY ASSISTANT
RESPONSIBLE TO: Coordinator of Health-related Services
FUNCTION:
Under the direction of a licensed Physical Therapist, will contribute to the assessment and evaluation of consumers’ needs, and plan and implement a treatment program to help meet the identified needs. Treatment may be provided through the use of gross motor, sensorimotor or activities of daily living techniques. Treatment may be implemented through the use of creative, recreational, and self-help activities, to enable individuals to achieve his/her optimal level of productivity and gross motor potential.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
1. Under the supervision of a Physical Therapist, records progress notes.
2. Provides direct therapy to a specific caseload according to Treatment Plan, under the supervision of a Physical Therapist.
3. Coordinates schedule with other department employees.
4. Participates and assists the Physical Therapists during the evaluation of consumers.
5. Available for necessary home visits as required.
6. Attends IPP and other team meetings and reports physical therapy progress.
7. Provides physical therapy services as requested by ICF, Residential and Clinic programs, as directed.
8. In conjunction with the Physical Therapist, participates in the development of therapeutic positioning methods for specified individuals, and trains staff in techniques used to incorporate such methods.
9. Completes routine departmental record keeping and documentation of services in accordance with regulatory requirements. Meets with parents, caregivers and support staff as needed.
10. Performs any other related duties as required by the Physical Therapists, other program staff or Coordinator of Health-related Services.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
The ability and desire to work with people, the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Willingness to accept direction and supervision. The ability to implement goal-directed activities in a creative and challenging manner. Must possess good organizational and time management skills. Physical abilities commensurate with requirements of the job.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program, certification as a Physical Therapy Assistant, and a valid driver’s license and driving record acceptable to TRC’s insurance carrier or equivalent accommodations.
