FUNCTION: To provide training and support to people with
intellectual, developmental disabilities and other related disabilities in
competitive employment. The job coach
will provide necessary training, support and follow-up services to support
people to maintain competitive employment.
This includes working with businesses to ensure successful retention of
the person receiving employment supports.
REQURED
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must
have knowledge of principles of Vocational Rehabilitation, Placement, and
supported employment and Department of Labor standards, Communication skills
necessary to work with program participants, families, local business partners,
and other agency personnel.
Ability to:

demands of the job. Must be flexible,
highly persistent, patient, and motivated to work with difficult candidates,
and possess a desire and ability to work unusual hours.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS:
Job
Coach I: Grade 11
High
school or equivalency diploma required and Two (2) years of related experience
in a job training capacity or Vocational Rehabilitation.
Valid
driver’s license and acceptable driving record according to guidelines
established by The Resource Center’s insurance carrier, use of personal vehicle
and automobile insurance (minimum of New York State’s statutory requirements
for personal liability) is required.
Job
Coach II Grade 12
Eligibility
for movement into a Job Coach II after 1 year experience as a Job Coach I,
satisfactory SPR, all up to date internal training requirements completed and
successful completion of 24 hours of Innovations Training specializing in
Employment related training.

hours of continuing education per year required after the first year and
ongoing each year.

business partners and acts as a liaison with employers in resolving any work
issues.Establishes and
maintains a collaborative relationship with local businesses, the person
receiving supports and the person’s team.Completes job
analysis for potential job placements by collecting and documenting information
regarding available jobs including skills required, hours of work, working
environment, etc.Effectively
communicates with businesses regarding goals and methods of support.Provides
on-the-job training at job sites to
assist the business in teach job skillsEnsures the
employer’s expectations are met.Records and
analyzes training records and measures/evaluates the person’s work performance.Provides other
training and supports, including but not limited to: travel training, orientation at the job site,
facilitating the social integration of the person in the work environment, and
money management techniques.Educates on soft
skills and other related skills needed to obtain or maintain employment (i.e.
attendance, hygiene, interview skills, resume building, interpersonal
skills).Assists
the person they support, family and others in understanding Department of Labor
and ADA regulations.In conjunction
with the person, ensures adequate and sustainable transportation to obtain and
maintain employment. This may include travel training in various modalities
including but not limited to bus, taxi, walking routes, identifying car pool
options. At times, for extenuating
circumstances a Job Coach may have to provide transportation in order for an
individual’s to not be in jeopardy of losing a job, until more appropriative
arrangements are solidified or if and emergent issue arises, such as a missed
bus, or a late taxi .Provides
long-term follow-up and regular evaluation of work performance to ensure a
successful placement, this may include the review of performance evaluations,
making on-site visits, discussion with a supervision or human resources staff
member at the business at which they are providing support and other interventions as required.Maintain
compliance with state and federal regulations as well as with agency and
departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines.Communicate
to Supervisor, Habilitation Specialist, Program Administrator, or specified
others any ideas, suggestions and/or concerns regarding the service recipient,
safety issues, department/agency policies, practices, etc.Participates
in meetings as required.Completes
required documentation in a timely manner.
Maintains all necessary records and, billing informationPursues
opportunities for professional growth and share knowledge and resources with
team.Assists
in orienting new staff members and acts as a role model/mentor for those
staff. Promotes cooperation and teamwork
amongst all individuals involved in the provision or receipt of services.Assists
