SUMMARY

 

The Compliance Specialist will report to the CIO, assisting in providing direction and guidance on compliance and ethics matters applicable to the company. As the Compliance Specialist, you will assist to formalize and enhance the Corporate Compliance and Ethics Program. The position will be responsible for execution of certain Programs and ongoing maintenance.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the mission, business, and strategies of the Company.
  • Assist in the continued implementation of the corporate Compliance and Ethics Program Which includes, but not limited to, facilitation of client requested sustainability audits, health insurance delegated entity audits, client compliance reporting, ethics hotline case management and facilitation of SAFE audit and risk meetings.
  • Stay current on relevant statutory and regulatory requirements, publications, and guidance issued by government agencies, and obtain input from appropriate authorities on new laws and regulations.
  • Support the Healthcare Insurance business unit by increasing efficiencies in obtaining and maintaining the licenses of its Tier 2 Agents with Healthcare Insurance sales responsibilities. Work with Healthcare Insurance leaders to maintain compliance with State licensing requirements of insurance sales agents and broker requirements.  Coordination with State licensing agencies and their representatives is a focal component of this responsibility.
  • Develop familiarity with Healthcare Insurance regulations inclusive of, but not limited to HIPPA, PHI, CMS, HITECH& HITRUST.
  • Create, revise, and/or implement policies and procedures for all risk areas while maintaining a policy database, user-friendly to employees.
  • Help to identify and implement continued annual training and awareness campaigns to clarify and reinforce compliance and ethics requirements; communicate and implement a culture of compliance, including personal accountability and reporting of suspected misconduct.
  • Collect and maintain related compliance training and awareness activities, and effectiveness; track issues and corrective actions to establish additional training needs.
  • Work with leadership to conduct compliance risk assessments and develop mitigation plans; monitor and assess compliance with policies and procedures, and make recommendations to develop, implement and modify policies and processes, as needed.
  • Collaborate with other departments to identify and resolve compliance issues.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE  

 

  • Bachelor Degree or equivalent required
  • 3+ years of experience in a Corporate environment required
  • Certified Ethics & Compliance Professional (“CCEP”) is a plus; Company will consider sponsoring CCEP certification
  • Knowledge of Healthcare Insurance regulations and licensed sales agent process preferred
  • Experience in corporate Compliance and Ethics Programs preferred

TECHNOLOGY SKILL BASE

 

This position requires a working knowledge of computer technology that includes: Windows, PowerPoint, Advanced Word and Excel, along with Client designated software.  Individuals must possess the ability to learn and understand new software and other technology applications as introduced by Client and Alta Resources.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to management, public groups, and other entities.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for up to eight hours, and stand. Manual dexterity which allows the individual to use hands to type on a keyboard, use a mouse and write are required, as is the ability to talk, and hear.   The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
