AdvanSix is seeking a Customer Logistics Planner to join the team in Chesterfield VA.  As a Customer Logistics Planner, you will support our North American logistics activities by focusing on the business requirements to quickly and efficiently plan outbound & inbound shipments. This position is highly collaborative and interacts with multiple internal supply chain partners, carriers, and customers.   

As a successful candidate you will optimize the day to day operations to assure that we provide excellent customer satisfaction and drive AdvanSix as the shipper of choice.  

Position Responsibilities

  • Directly responsible for the daily planning of freight to carriers based on commitments, capacity, service, equipment, and price. 
  • Manage relationships with our carrier partners to ensure daily execution of all movements, review performance and recommend improvements to the supply chain, based on business priorities. 
  • Serve as the logistics contact for key stakeholders within the supply chain.
  • Understand the distribution channels and key customer service requirements within each in order to exceed customer expectations.  
  • Proactively identify and communicate daily any at-risk/failed shipments and develop/offer solutions to ensure timely flow of product to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction. 
  • Partner with internal plants and warehouses on loading and shipping requirements to improve service levels and costs
  • Responsible for supporting functionality within the system including updating rate tables to align with contracts, evaluating functionality to support operations, reporting, troubleshooting systemic issues and implementing TMS system improvements.
  • Analyze data and prepare scorecards to evaluate carrier performance. KPI’s around carrier and logistics provider cost, efficiency, and on-time service that support continuous improvement
  • Understand the marketplace in order to negotiate spot rate pricing
  • Determine appropriate accessorial charges
  • Occasional night and weekend work as part of a rotating on-call schedule.
  • Utilize SAP as mechanism to create and cost shipments.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for presenting information to individuals and groups and responding to questions from customer service, carriers, and customers.

Education and Experience 

  • Bachelor's Degree from a four-year university or a 5-year manufacturing or logistical background 
  • 2+ years work experience in Supply Chain and/or Customer Service
  • Working knowledge of domestic transportation/TMS applications – preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software
  • SAP system experience
  • Understanding of multiple modes of transportation 
  • Knowledge about the Chemical industry
  • Travel will be required during training but minimal (less than 5%) after learning the business.
