Position Summary: DCS Engineer - Process Controls interacts with the infrastructure, hardware, and software of the facilities Distributed Controls System (DCS) to help maintain, upgrade, and modify the controls systems that keep the facilities instrumentation and operating systems functional.  This position works with Production Engineers, Plant Operators, Instrument and Electrical Technicians, Process Engineers, and Environmental engineers to help support and maintain plant operations through troubleshooting, planning and executing projects related to the DCS, and supporting plant maintenance capital work that interfaces with the controls system.


Duties and Responsibilities:

-System Design and Configuration:

  • Designing and configuring Distributed Control Systems for industrial processes.
  • Developing control strategies and logic to optimize process performance.

-Programming and Implementation:

  • Writing and implementing control system code.
  • Configuring and programming controllers, sensors, and other devices.

-Troubleshooting and Maintenance:

  • Identifying and resolving issues with control systems.
  • Performing regular maintenance to ensure the reliability of DCS.

-System Integration:

  • Integrating DCS with other control systems and enterprise-level systems.
  • Collaborating with other engineering disciplines for seamless integration.

-Instrumentation Calibration:

  • Calibrating and maintaining instrumentation devices to ensure accurate readings.
  • Verifying and adjusting control loops for optimal performance.

-Documentation:

  • Creating and maintaining documentation related to control system design, configuration, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Keeping records of changes and updates to the DCS.

-Training and Support:

  • Providing training to operations and maintenance personnel on the use and maintenance of the DCS.
  • Offering technical support to resolve control system-related issues.

-Process Optimization:

  • Analyzing process data to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Implementing changes to optimize the efficiency and effectiveness of the control system.

-Safety and Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensuring that the control system meets safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Participating in audits and inspections related to control system compliance.

-Upgrades and Expansion:

  • Planning and implementing upgrades or expansions to the DCS.
  • Staying informed about new technologies and advancements in process control.

-Collaboration:

  • Collaborating with other engineers, project managers, and stakeholders on control system projects.
  • Participating in cross-functional teams for overall project success.

 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical controls engineering 
  • 5+ years of experience in process, production, and/or manufacturing engineering within the chemical, petroleum, and/or polymer industrial manufacturing environments with direct use and interaction of a DCS system


Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with Front-End-Loading (FEL) and stage gate project development for major capital projects 
  • Experience in large and small molecule production at an industrial scale 
  • Experience in designing and executing projects 
  • Experience in Process Safety Management covered processes 
  • Familiarity with DCS programs such as Experion, Foxboro, or DeltaV 
  • Must be self-motivated and goal-oriented with proven success working independently and in a multi-functional team environment 
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and verbal and written communication skills 
  • Able to manage multiple projects 
  • Able to use influence to accomplish goals and objectives
