The AdvanSix Frankford facility is a respectful workplace that supports safety, workforce capability, and employee engagement at all levels. Our facility is located on 50 acres in Northeast Philadelphia in the Bridesburg neighborhood at 2501 Margaret Street. Our facility is one of North America's largest phenol manufacturing plants. Our key products are chemical intermediates: phenol, acetone, and alpha-methylstyrene, which are sold to customers around the world. Our facility provides a vital feedstock to our Hopewell, Virginia Site, where it is used to make caprolactam, the primary raw material in the production of nylon polymer, used in the manufacture of carpet fibers, performance plastics and films.
The Sr. Safety Specialist will demonstrate a strong commitment to HSE excellence and a passion for occupational safety. The Sr. Safety Specialist will lead tactical efforts to improve safety performance, provide technical expertise, and coach/mentor area personnel; including contractors. This position is responsible for key plant safety metrics, demonstrates strong commitment to health and safety excellence, and has a passion for occupational safety.
Responsibilities:
- Leads by example and engages and inspires employees daily to want to work safely and look out for their co-worker’s well-being
- Support the implementation of HSE programs and practices consistent with the regulatory and corporate requirements
- Work with stakeholders to build a strong safety culture that engages all employees
- Assist in establishing vision, goals, objectives and targets for safety performance
- Provide expert hands-on technical involvement on issues, programs, and processes involving compliance with HSE standards and policies
- Support the HSE programs by engaging, coaching, and mentoring employees and contractors daily
- Ensure investigations and corrective actions for incidents are completed and verified within the HSE Management System
- Conduct Safety Training, including Life Critical Programs and Work Permits
- Provide assistance to improve site HSE Management System in accordance with Responsible Care 14001 standards
- Develop and implement effective processes for area compliance responsibilities (life critical auditing, safety training, RFC management)
- Approve RFC’s, including Pre-Startup Safety Reviews
- Perform other HSE and related general duties as identifies
- Perform work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (cold, hot, humid, rain, snow, etc.)
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Safety Science, Engineering, Chemistry, or related discipline
- 5+ years of progressive experience in Health & Safety in a chemical or petrochemical environment or equivalent environment
- Valid Driver’s License
Additional Qualifications:
- Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other related certifications are a plus
- Knowledge of NFPA, OSHA, & MTSA regulations related to Safety and ER&S
- Familiarity of safety regulations/programs pertaining to chemical operations and basic understanding of safety work processes (i.e., Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space Permitting, work permits)
- Ability to prioritize work and handle multiple / varied tasks efficiently
- Demonstrated proficiency with incident investigations and root cause analysis
- Demonstrated ability to use influencing skills to accomplish goals and objectives
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
- Strong bias for action, a sense of urgency, and the ability to match critical and integrative thinking with the ability to drive results
- Self-motivated, able to perform with minimal supervision
- Well-developed interpersonal, oral communication and writing skills
