Mechanical Designer
AdvanSix has a multidiscipline in-house design and engineering department experienced in developing and executing capital projects for our internal customers. This team is nested with the project management / project controls / construction groups providing direct collaboration and participation individually and on teams.
As part of our team you will work in collaboration with project managers, operations, procurement, maintenance and engineers in the development of projects to strengthen our business. On project teams you will work directly with stakeholders on projects to improve reliability, productivity, safety and the environment.
Position Summary:The Mechanical Designer is responsible for supporting procurement, construction, and commissioning phases of projects with activities including assisting with preparation of labor/material estimates and 3D design packages. Work is typically performed in the office and field.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Create and review equipment drawings and layouts
· Create and review 3D designs for equipment and piping installation drawings such as but not limited to pumps, compressors, tanks, blowers, fans, etc.
- Understand piping specifications; materials of construction, pipe hangers and supports, spring can diagrams, and expansion loops.
· Review and integrate vendor schematics and drawings into site-based designs
· Able to Perform field measurements system walk downs for projects and as-builts in an operating chemical production facility
· Produce redlines of actual installation conditions
· Able to set a good example with all rules and regulations to achieve 100% universal compliance with HS&E (Health, Safety & Environmental) Procedures/Regulations
· Participate in safety audits or surveillances
· Perform system walk downs to identify deficiencies and ensure compliance to design and customer requirements
· Ensure applicable engineering codes and standards as well as company policies, specifications and procedures are being followed
· Ensure construction practices as required are compliant with operations/execution with federal, state, local, and plant codes/policies
· Review process package and prepare equipment/material specifications sheets to order items; review with vendor to confirm capability and delivery to meet project objectives
· Assume shared responsibility for budget and schedule control for design execution.
Basic Qualifications:
· High School Diploma or G.E.D.
· 2-15 years of experience in AutoCAD or equivalent certification of its use
· Proficient in 3D Modeling
· Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
· Understanding of Industrial facilities
· Good verbal and written communication skills
· Self-motivated individual who is goal-oriented desiring success working independently in a multi-functional team environment
Additional Qualifications:
· Associate degree in mechanical or mechanical engineering · Basic understanding of P&ID's and PFD's
· Ability to understand piping specifications, materials of construction, pipe hangers supports, and expansion loops
· Basic understanding of Bill of Material (BOM), Material to Order (MTO), and how to incorporate types and quantities of detailed MTO/BOM
· Familiar with current ASME, ANSI, and API standards
· Experience working in industrial facilities
· Travel 10%
· Strong understanding of safety programs and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) requirements while performing field research in an industrial facility
· Able to manage multiple priorities
