The Pennsylvania Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW-PA) located in Cumberland County, with a statewide membership of over 4000, is seeking an Education Program Manager with demonstrated event management and program development skills. NASW is the largest membership organization of professional social workers in the world, with 110,000 members nationwide. NASW works to enhance the professional growth and development of its members, to create and maintain professional standards, and to advance sound social policies.

MAJOR FUNCTIONS:
 

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Education Program Manager is responsible for managing NASW-PA’s overall continuing education activities.

 

Under the strategic direction of the Executive Director, the Education Program Manager will be responsible for planning and executing in-person and virtual events such as conferences, live and recorded webinars, listening sessions, town halls and networking opportunities. Directly responsible for the creation, development, implementation and growth of Continuing Education programs to meet the needs of the social work profession.


Due to the nature of conference work, there will be travel involved in order to attend conferences and some evening and weekend work required at those conferences. 
 

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

Events/Programming Development and Execution

  1. Organize programming and events with input from the Executive Director, Chapter staff, member committees and Board of Directors that meet the needs of social workers in macro and clinical settings, including the development of creative programming ideas
  2. Essential work includes conference topic identification and development, quality and diverse speaker recruitment and identification, securing conference settings for both in-person and virtual conferences, negotiating hotel and catering contracts and coordination of all online and onsite conference/event details, and facilitate poster sessions
  3. Provide administrative oversight, management, and operational support of the online registration and fielding potential attendee questions over email and phone
  4. Recruit annual and event sponsors and exhibitors, provide oversight of sponsorship program, manage online registration of sponsors, and ensure commitments to sponsors are met
  5. Market and communicate education opportunities to various audiences by updating conferences, events on NASW-PA website and developing marketing materials, emails and social media
  6. Recruit volunteers for and manage Conference Committee
  7. Maintain event budgets including accurate income and expense projections
  8. Manage the chapter’s online education program including posting recordings of live/virtual events and the development of other fully online educational materials
  9. Work with administrative staff to manage post-event follow ups including development and analyses of evaluations and completion of any continuing education related materials
  10. Assist with the chapter’s continuing education endorsement and approval program

General Responsibilities

  1. Perform a wide variety of administrative duties as required to support agency-wide daily operations
  2. Work closely with NASW-PA Executive Director to support program goals as needed
  3. Attend in-person and virtual staff meetings
  4. Support special projects with the Chapter, as assigned
  5. Participate in professional development opportunities, as assigned
  6. Coordinate meetings, conference/virtual calls, and make travel arrangements
  7. Work independently or with a designated team on special projects
  8. Maintain strong and positive relationships with constituents, community partners, and stakeholders
  9. Communicating with professional social workers, students, allied professionals, and/or members as needed, acting as a core representative of the NASW-PA Chapter, and being able to articulate NASW-PA member benefits, services, and opportunities
  10. Occasional evening and weekend obligations
  11. Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

MINIMUM WORK REQUIREMENTS:
 
 

Knowledge:

  1. Bachelor or Master of Social Work degree or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
  2. Knowledge of graphic design (Adobe programs, Canva) preferred, but not required.
  3. Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook, and proficiency with website design, maintenance, and online meeting platforms such as Zoom and/or GoToMeeting.

Skills:

  1. Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to effectively communicate to a wide variety of audiences.
  2. Ability to lead and collaborate in a complex environment with multiple competing priorities.
  3. Ability to manage time effectively.
  4. Detail-oriented and the ability to think critically.
  5. Ability to work independently, but also as part of multiple teams.

Experience:

  1. Minimum 1-2 years’ experience with event planning required on professional or volunteer level.
  2. Experience in the nonprofit sector and/or membership association is highly desirable.

Compensation & Application:

This position is currently fully remote in light of the COVID-19 pandemic but will require future attendance at the NASW-PA office and at in-person conferences and events. The position salary is $50,000.  Note that NASW has a COVID-19 vaccine policy requiring full vaccination and all recommended boosters for in-person activity
