The Network Engineer is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of The Hillman’s Group Retail’s network infrastructure. Significant contact with Information Technology associates and the user community will be required to focus on leveraging new and existing network technology to support the company’s business needs. A significant majority of these requirements must be accomplished to meet the overall requirements of the position.

 

Essential Job Functions *

  1. Responsible to ensure acceptable availability of all network components supported by the Technical Services group, which will require the associate to participate in an on-call rotation. 
  2. Cross-platform expertise is required to work with Information Technology on the integration of iSeries and   Intel Servers, Storage, Cloud Services and peripheral devices within the network architecture 
  3. Responsible for the physical layout, installation and upgrading of all network components. 
  4. Configure, install and maintain network equipment, connectivity, and network services across local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), and remote access.  Maintain network and equipment documentation as needed. 
  5. Monitor network status and performance for troubleshooting and capacity planning purposes. Use network management systems and protocol analyzers to troubleshoot and analyze network traffic. 
  6. Provide network security through the use of technologies such as fire walls, control access systems, virus scanning, security-based appliances and detection services 
  7. Provide input on efforts for establishing technology standards and building our hardware/software infrastructure in all network components. Ensures quality within Technical Services through compliance to standards and methods 
  8. Act as technical consultant to Information Technology groups and business areas as needed. Participate in an Individual Contributor role for network-related tasks on various IT Projects

Education & Experience

  • 2-4 years of Information Technology/Network/Business related experience 
  • Computer Science or Computer Engineering university degree OR 2 year computer diploma from a local technical institute OR equivalent experience 

Competencies – Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Network & VOIP Equipment & Technologies – Cisco, Extreme Networks, Riverbed, SolarWinds 
  • Network topologies, internetwork protocols, network security, VOIP 
  • Proficient with the use of system and network management tools 
  • Proficient understanding of all network architecture technology (hardware and software) within Hillman’s network 
  • ITIL concepts and procedures 
  • Ability to work independently, with occasional input from Senior -level Network Engineering staff and Management.  
  • Strong Analytical, Problem Solving, Interpersonal, Internal Customer Service, Written and Verbal Communications 
  • Ability to Solve Problems, Accept and Act on Constructive Criticism, Keep Detailed & Accurate Records, Adapt and Manage Change, Exhibit Professionalism at all times

Office: Office setting. Seldom exposed to fumes or airborne particles. Loud working environment of the shop area. Functional vision and hearing required.
