Job Summary:

The Product Designer (Senior) focuses on detailed design and discovery work, and bridging problems and solutions. They operate ahead of the team’s current development efforts to explore, validate, and shape concepts to solve problems further upstream. They connect product strategy through to execution, leading a creative, collaborative, and customer-centric approach to product development. They enable others to learn from their skills and experience.


Supervisory Responsibilities (For Leaders):

  • Proactively leads design projects and efforts.

  • Able to successfully lead a group of individuals towards a desired outcome.

  • Experienced prioritizing, planning, and coordinating research and design efforts on multiple projects or areas of improvement.

  • Leads and mentors others in design thinking, UI, UX, and design workflows.

  • Leads and mentors others in the practice of planning, running, and analyzing feedback from research.

  • Plays an active role in nurturing the skills of other designers.


Industry Knowledge, Networking and Subject Matter Expertise:

  • Has a strong understanding of the current strategy and objectives of the business and the opportunities it has to impact and positively change the industry, while also understanding product and design’s role in said impact.

  • Understands users, their needs, and how a given product will deliver value.

  • Demonstrates best practice and depth of skill with applying principles of good UI and visual design to create visually compelling and consistent user interfaces and experiences.

  • Actively networks and gives direction on how to best align product design efforts with the business.


Duties/Responsibilities/Primary Function:

  • Solves larger scale problems by delivering conceptual thinking to develop new and alternative solutions.


Required Skills/Abilities/Profile:

  • Proactively takes a lead on design projects.

  • Able to successfully lead a group of individuals towards a desired outcome.

  • Experience prioritizing, planning, and coordinating research and design efforts on multiple projects or areas of improvement.

  • Leads and mentors others in the practices of UI design, UX, design, design paradigms, and workflows.

  • Leads and mentors others in the practice of planning, running, and analyzing the feedback from research sessions.

  • Plays an active role in nurturing the skills of other designers.

  • Experienced with planning, conducting, and analyzing strategic research activities, necessary to discover, understand, and define users’, their jobs (JTBD), pains, gains, and journeys.

  • Experienced utilizing a hypothesis-driven approach to research and design, using an experimental methodology to identify minimum viable solutions to users’ problems.

  • Experienced with applying insight, analysis, and creativity to determine how best to execute on strategy and drive desired outcomes for users and the business.

  • Participates in shaping initiatives and informing the product road map.

  • Regularly infuses new, modern design methods and techniques into their work and the design team workflow.

  • Actively contributes to, and maintains, shared pattern libraries and acts as a gatekeeper and hygienist in shared libraries in an effort to maintain high quality, efficient design output.

  • Identifies potential connections or collisions between different features, products and platforms.

  • Regularly facilitates group discovery and design exercises and experiments.

  • Has experience with qualitative and quantitative research, persona development, visual design, user interface design (UI), user experience design (UX), information architecture, interaction design, journey mapping, prototyping, and user testing.


Education and Experience:

  • At least 5-8 years related experience required.

  • Bachelors OR Masters preferred but not required.

  • Must be able and willing to travel. (Clients, team meet ups, local office).
