JOB TITLE: Objectively Structured Clinical Evaluation (OSCE) Examiner

REPORTS TO: Supervisor

DEPARTMENT: Test Centers CAN

LOCATION: Toronto, Ontario

 

JOB OVERVIEW

Prometric administers the Certification Examinations for registration as a Massage Therapist in Ontario. The examinations involve a Multiple-Choice Question (MCQ) Examination and an Objectively Structured Clinical Evaluation (OSCE). The OSCE is administered in Downtown Toronto, Ontario, and is designed to assess candidate knowledge, skill, and judgment in a simulated clinical setting. As an examiner, you will work alongside an exam partner (and a standardized client) in a particular OSCE station. Typically, examiners train on one station and perform in that station for the duration of the year. Examiners take direction from OSCE tracker examiners (i.e., supervisors) as well as from other Prometric staff (e.g., operations manager, content specialist).

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Evaluate candidates in one of seven OSCE stations exactly as trained.

· Follow a defined set of objective marking criteria that provide the basis upon which candidates are evaluated.

· Operate a computer or tablet for candidate evaluations.

· Attend comprehensive mandatory training (both in-person and virtual training)

· Participate in re-training as required.

· Memorize scripted responses pertaining to common candidate interactions.

· Maintain communication with Prometric staff regarding any performance issues related to other exam staff Report any errors, omissions, or inconsistencies in exam materials to Prometric staff.

· Record detailed accounts of unusual or unanticipated events when instructed by Prometric staff.

· Assist in other duties from time to time to ensure a smooth and timely delivery of exams (e.g., monitor track, escort candidates on and off the track) Maintain confidentiality related to all aspects of exam involvement and exam materials.

 

 

 

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION/PROFESSIONAL DESIGNATION

· Graduate of an approved massage therapy program (or equivalent)

· Current General Certificate of Registration in good standing as an RMT in Ontario and, if selected for the role, will continue to practice.

 

EXPERIENCE

· Minimum of five (5) years of massage therapy practice

· Must not have taught in an approved Massage Therapy program in the last three years.

· Must not have a personal relationship or affiliation with any student who is currently or will be enrolled in an approved Massage Therapy program.

· Previous examiner or educational experience is considered an asset.

 

SKILLS

· Possess a strong understanding of the multiple subject areas comprising the Interjurisdictional Practice Competencies and Performance Indicators for Massage Therapists at Entry to Practice (PC/PIs)

· Possess a strong understanding of the CMTO Standards of Practice

· Possess an awareness of evolving trends or changes impacting the massage therapy profession (e.g., evidence-informed practice, legislation updates)

· Committed to maintaining the integrity and ensuring confidentiality and professionalism.

· Adaptable and able to work well with others.

· Critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to think and react quickly.

· Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

· Able to listen and communicate clearly and effectively.

· Fluency in French is considered an asset.

 

TIME COMMITMENT:

· Completion of mandatory virtual training modules, 3-4 hours in March 2024

· Examiners are required to attend two (2) to four (4) training dates, depending on their assigned OSCE station. Training will occur in April 2024 (training may use a combination of virtual and in-person modes)This role requires In-person attendance at the OSCE facility for OSCE Administration. Availability for dates between May and December 2024.

 

REMUNERATION AND EXPENSES

· Paid for all time worked, including training.

· Applicable expenses related to travel, accommodation, and meals are eligible for reimbursement in accordance with the Prometric travel and expenses policies.

 

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

· Generally seated and operating a tablet/computer

· Washroom breaks are typically 90 mins apart to avoid disrupting the exam schedule.
