Network Engineer II Hybrid

Purpose:

The Network Engineer II is responsible for supporting the availability, performance, and security of local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), virtual private networks (VPNs), and wireless network services (WLANs) across the organization.  This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network hardware, software, and communication links to ensure minimal network downtime.  The Network Engineer II also troubleshoots network performance issues in a timely and accurate fashion, as well as analyzing network traffic and providing capacity planning solutions.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Install setup, configure, test, and document network hardware, software and cabling for both production and disaster recovery includes maintaining documentation of networks and network systems
  • Troubleshoot, resolve, and document network performance issues and outages and in a timely manner, including timely resolution of assigned Help Desk tickets (Level I and II).
  • Develop processes and procedures for ongoing support of the network and server environment.
  • Work closely with the Telecommunications team and vendors/service providers to coordinate the installation of circuits (T1/T3, DSL, ISDN, etc.), cabling, and other data communications services as necessary.
  • Ensure all network equipment and services are configured in a secure manner to protect the company systems and data from unauthorized access.
  • Manage relationships with equipment vendors and service providers.
  • Assist in the development the IT networking strategy for various projects and partner closely with product vendors and service providers, other IT personnel, and with business departments.

 

Qualifications – Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (required or preferred):

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree and/or 5 years equivalent work experience.
  • Years of Related Experience: Minimum 5 years of IT Networking experience required.

 

Licenses and Certifications Preferred:

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)

Experience with and/or working knowledge of the following is required:

  • Cisco Router, Switch, VPN Administration/Configuration  (CCNA or CCNP preferred)
  • Firewall Administration/Configuration
  • LAN/WAN Design & Support
  • Wireless Networking & Security
  • Microsoft Office Products including Visio
  • Experience with and/or working knowledge of the following is preferred but not required:
    • Data Cabling System Design & Implementation
    • Solarwinds Network Management Software
    • NetFlow Analysis
  • Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring and supporting Cisco Networks.

Physical Requirements:         

  • Ability to communicate promptly and accurately via computer, telephone, or similar device with or without assistive technology
  • Ability to perform sedentary work
